Sunday Afternoon Guitar Tech Sunday, May 25 2008

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, as we are waiting for the LSU Baseball team to kick it up in Hoover, Alabama, I thought i’d share a quick blog on a social experiment that I’ve been wanting to try.

The quest for tone for a guitar player is very much like looking for water in the desert…you need it to live, you see a lot of false “images” or “mirages” that look like tone but, coming down to it, aren’t real, and when you do find this tone you seek for, it’s the same as jumping into a swimming pool in the middle of the Sahara.

I’ve been obsessed with Soldano amps for a long time. Soldano’s are “boutique” amps made in California. “Boutique” meaning that they are 1.) very expensive 2.) hand made 3.) can’t really find them at the neighborhood stores. Clapton and Dickie Betts from the Allman’s used these amps for a long time…so did Eddie Van Halen during the “Twister” 1997 period. These amps are known to be the perfect combination of Fender “clean” and “Marshall” dirty. My personal thoughts put Soldanos above the Marshall dirty…for some reason, the Soldanos sound much more rich and less “out of control” than the typical Marshall Plexi head.

On the search for the ultimate tone, here’s where we will start. I’ll keep you updated on what is decided on…

“Missed Call” (aka The Drunk Text Song) (aka The Facebook song) Thursday, May 22 2008

Coming to a itunes near you:
Missed Call (The Drunk Text Song):

You never call me on the phone
just a text when your drunk and alone
I’m so confused on what to do
cause im just a Missed call to you….

I try to call you the other day
I try to call you the other night
I sent you a message on facebook too
but you know cyber stalkin just aint right

Your status said that you’re all alone
So I tried to reach you on your new cell phone
It went straight to message, but here’s the shock
In twenty seconds, hada text in my box.

Your text said you were drunk at the shroom
and you just made out with every boy in the room
Should I respond, or show up and see
let a drunk text make a fool out of me.

(Chorus)

You know i’ve tried to understand
but it confuses the hell out of me
I don’t even have text messages on my plan
Ill guess ill have to switch to AT and T

Now i give up, I really do
I’ve tried my best, to get to you.
You wont answer, I’ll never win
my phone bill so high its a sin

So Ill give this one last try
Im gonna text you until you cry
But if you dont really wanna see my face…
Ill just have to look you up on myspace

(but im not a stalker)
Ill have to look you up on myspace
(tag you in a picture)
Ill have to look you up on myspace
(and on facebook)
We’re gonna have a ball on myspace

Eleven Years From Yesterday Tuesday, May 20 2008

My friend Buzzy Beano has released his brand new double CD called “Eleven Years From Yesterday”….

When I say this CD has been years in the making…we started recording this well before Katrina.

This double CD is an original project made up of songs that Buzzy crafted during his time with Vince Vance and The Valients as well as The Topcats. Don’t let his employers fool you, the music on “Eleven Years” is some very serious stuff. The influences on this CD run from The Bealtes to Bruce Springsteen to NIN to Ravi Shankar.

I am very proud to have worked on this CD project…some amazing music and production has come from the sessions over the past few years.

Check out Buzzy’s Myspace page, samples from the CD are up:
